Mental Health Research: Our Students’ Proposal Rated Top 3 in Nigeria by SURPIN

A set of students from our Anthony campus recently participated in the Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative (SURPIN’s) mental health research proposal competition, and their write-up on how grades affect mental health has been rated third best in the country. Before emerging third place winners, the students’ proposal had earlier been adjudged the best in the South West geopolitical zone, and for this winning, the set of students, made up of Ini Afolabi, Fareedah Onigbanjo, Ikepo Soyinka, Oreoluwa Olorunfemi, and Oshone Omamegbe has been accepted into the SURPIN Research Mentorship Programme.

In addition to that, the students received a total prize of ₦200,000, and they are expected to conduct their proposed research. Upon completion, the research work will be presented during the SURPIN scientific conference in 2023. The final of the mental health research proposal competition took place on September 10, 2022, which is World Suicide Prevention Day, and the competition drew participants from secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
