It’s here again! Greensprings School is pleased to announce the commemoration of its 33rd Anniversary. While there have been many challenges facing the education sector in Africa, the school has remained strong and unwavering.
According to Mr. Uche Ogbu, Head of Corporate Strategy of the school; “well-rounded education is an absolute necessity for economic and social development of any nation. Based on this, the school has pushed beyond limits to ensure that every child is ready for the world stage”.
In the statement of Bola Odutayo, an elementary teacher at Greensprings School “I am proud to be a member of this great community. The school has helped shape my thinking and I have learnt so much more than I expected in the last seven years”.
‘So much more’ is what every child, staff and parent deserve. This explains the reason why Greensprings School is relentless in its effort to go beyond what is expected to serve the African child.
Greensprings School has celebrated major breakthroughs and successes in the last one year that are worthy of celebration;
Verod Capital Management, a leading private equity firm based in Nigeria acquired a minority stake in Greensprings Educational Services. The investment is made through its Oreon education investment vehicle and will enable the school restructure its capital base and fund growth initiatives. In a statement by Eric Idiahi, partner at Verod Capital Management “this acquisition is based on the schools long track record of academic excellence.”
Greensprings School became the first thinking school in Nigeria. In partnership with Thinking School International, Greensprings is the first school in Nigeria to adopt a Thinking School curriculum. This initiative will help teachers, staffs and students develop a growth mindset that will make them more innovative in proffering solutions to problems within their environment. As the only accredited Thinking School in Nigeria, Greensprings’ pioneer teachers will be involved in training other schools with an aim of having more thinking schools in Africa. Helen Brocklesby, the Director of Education at Greensprings School, believes that the next generations of inventors can be found here in Nigeria, if given the right tools.
Greensprings School always ensures that our students are given every opportunity to experience learning from international companies. For example Airbus Foundation Programme for “little engineers” allowed our year 9 students to spend a morning tackling the logistical problems involved with building the A380 along with programming and robotics. This partnership is in line with preparing the students for the advent of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robots.
Launch of Greensprings Training College. The training college is specifically designed to provide professional trainings to parents, teachers, school administrators and other professionals. The training college was introduced based on the positive feedback received from participants in previous trainings, as well as the lack of adequate qualified teachers in education sector.
Greensprings Montessori Center (GMC) became the second school in Nigeria to be accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), USA. The accreditation is a validation of the Montessori training standard of the centre. It also confirms Greensprings’ commitment to excellence and best practice in preparing young children for the future, using the Montessori Method.
Oluwatamilore Adeboyejo became the most technovative student at the 10th annual school computer club summit and coding competition organized by the schools computer club initiative which is supported by Nigeria Computer Society.
As part of the schools effort to give back to the community, Afeez Jubril and Ogunleye Oluwatobi who emerged as the two most promising football talents at the annual Greensprings Kanu Football Camp were awarded full scholarship into Greensprings School. It is definitely a dream come true for the upcoming football stars and a fulfilment of our promise.
Greensprings School will continue to add value to the lives of children, parents and teachers.
The Executive Director, Mrs. Lai Koiki recalls the journey so far, as one that has witnessed many challenges. In her exact words “we started with three children, two were donated by my sister and I’m glad to say that all three of them are doing well now” Great things start but must be nurtured.
Since its founding in 1985, Greensprings school has delivered excellent world-class and life transforming educational services to children of different ages across different categories i.e. preschool, elementary, secondary and most recently the IB Diploma category.
Over the last three decades, the school has remained strong and unwavering in its commitment to lead holistic, inclusive, innovative world class education in Africa.
