5-Minute Wins: The Traffic Light Review – Excellence Through Active Recall

Most students waste hours re-reading notes they already know. This hack stops the autopilot and forces your brain to work harder in less time.

How to do it :

Take your syllabus or a chapter outline and grab three highlighters, RED, YELLOW, GREEN, or just mark with symbols. Then categorise your topics:

  • Green (The Got It): You could explain this to a friend right now. Move on, don’t waste time here.
  • Yellow (The Shaky): You know the concept, but you’d struggle with the details under pressure. Review these for 15 minutes every day.
  • Red (The Roadblock): You’re totally lost. This is where your work starts. Speak to your teacher or form tutor, or ask a peer immediately.

Don’t study harder, study smarter. If your notes are all green, you aren’t studying—you’re just reminiscing.
