Mrs. Lai Koiki Reflects on 40 Years of Academic Excellence

Newsletter note from the Executive Director

Dear Greensprings family,

Forty years ago, this journey began with three toddlers, a modest room, and one mother’s search for a school worthy of her daughter. That personal conviction grew into a community mission: to nurture every child to flourish in both character and learning. We never set out to be the biggest; we set out to be faithful—faithful to each child, each lesson, each act of service. By God’s grace, a classroom became a community, and today that vision has blossomed into three campuses and Anthos House.

What has kept us steady through power cuts, flooded corridors, challenging economies, and rapid growth? Our heartbeat has always been the same: “In Love Serve One Another.” This is not a slogan on a wall; it is our daily practice. It looks like teachers who stay a little longer because a child needs reassurance. It looks like support staff opening the gates before dawn so learning begins on time. It looks like parents choosing partnership over panic, and students cheering one another on.
I am especially proud of the doors we have opened for learners with diverse needs. With inclusive practices across classrooms and the work at Anthos House, we have insisted that every Nigerian child must be seen, supported, and stretched. Excellence must never exclude. When a child is truly recognized and encouraged, confidence soars and scholarship follows.

These four decades have taught me lessons I now hold close:
• Character and scholarship walk hand in hand: When children learn courage, kindness, and discipline, results take care of themselves.
Partnership multiplies impact:  School works best when home and classroom pull in the same direction.
• Grace and resilience matter: Setbacks can become stepping stones when faced together, anchored in faith and perseverance.

As we step into our next season, my invitation is simple: let every lesson, every project, every interaction echo our calling to serve. Greet every child like they matter—because they do. Teach as if you are lighting a path someone will walk for life. Lead with service, whether you hold a broom, a whiteboard marker, or a board agenda.

If each of us carries a piece of Greensprings into our homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods, the next 40 years will be even brighter than the first, not because of buildings or accolades, but because of the thousands of Nigerian children who will emerge confident, compassionate, and ready to build, heal, and lead.

Thank you for writing this story with me; teachers, staff, parents, students, and alumni. Let’s keep serving. Let’s keep learning. Let’s keep lifting the Nigerian child.

With gratitude and renewed energy,
Lai Koiki
Executive Director
