SPIN 2025: Nigeria Hosts Its First-Ever National Spelling Bee
Celebrating the outstanding achievement of Esther Alabi, a student from Greensprings School Lekki Secondary, who excelled in the first-ever edition of the Spelling Bee in Nigeria (SPIN)!
Held between November 2024 and March 14, 2025, the competition began with 102 participants from across the country and culminated in a thrilling National Finals at the U.S. Consul General’s residence in Ikoyi. This highly competitive event tested students on complex words of Greek, Latin, French, and Spanish origins, as well as their understanding of etymology and the rules of word formation.
The event was both rigorous and intellectually stimulating, gradually narrowing down contestants until only 64 made it to the final round. Among these talented spellers, Esther Alabi stood out, earning the Vocabulary Award for her exceptional skill in vocabulary acquisition and securing an impressive 4th place overall.
Esther’s success is a reflection of her dedication and the strong academic support she received from her teachers and school community. Her performance in this national competition not only highlights individual excellence but also brings pride to Greensprings School.
