Our Student Wins Canon Young Champion of the Year at Global Good Awards 2024

One of our International Baccalaureate (IB2) students, Amara Nwuneli has been honoured with the Canon Young Champion of the Year in the Under 16 category at the prestigious Global Good Awards 2024. This accolade celebrates Amara’s exemplary contributions to climate education and action through her youth-led NGO, Preserve Our Roots.

Amara’s journey as a climate activist was ignited after experiencing a devastating flood that impacted her home in Lagos. This life-changing event inspired her to establish Preserve Our Roots, a platform committed to educating youth on climate issues and rallying support for schools in communities affected by natural disasters. Her work has included fundraising drives and initiatives to ensure marginalized communities have access to climate education.

Upon receiving the award, Amara shared, “I am not just a climate activist. I am not just a philanthropist or student. I am a representation of my natural world and my ancestors who once inhabited it. I truly believe in the power of youth because I have seen with my own eyes the change I have been able to make through my story and the stories I help tell.”

We look forward to supporting Amara in her continued journey to drive positive change and empower more students.
