Swimming is a sport on its own that deals with human nature. We believe that swimming is an essential, priceless, irreplaceable component of human body therapy.

Our mantra for this elective is “SWIM EXCELLENTLY AND SAFELY”. Actually swimming fully started in Greensprings School Lekki Campus in October 16, 2008 and since then Greensprings has been leading in several swimming competitions like the AISEN, WAISAL, Dr. J.K. Randle and AIS swimming meets.

Our next step is to excel at the global stage where we will explore and give our swimmers a wonderful exposure in swimming so that in the near future our school can produce star swimmers like Michael Phelps.

Elective: Tennis Coordinator: Mr. Aluko

In tennis elective, beginners benefit from individual attention and constant encouragement, as well as learning to develop their basic tennis strokes. Intermediate players refine their strokes and learn how to use their strengths for competitive advantage. More advanced players also cover spin techniques, positional play, footwork and tactical awareness. All players play full-length games and learn the rules of the game, as well as receiving coaching in good tennis techniques, sportsmanship and general fitness.

 

Elective: Table Tennis Coordinator: Mr. Juba

Table Tennis in Greensprings School, Lekki Campus offers students the wonderful opportunity to learn new skills as well exercise their bodies thereby keeping them fit and healthy. Supported by the coaches, students acquire skills such as serving the ball, using the forehand, backhand and smashing among others.

Elective: Golf Coordinator: Mr. Nwose

Golf Elective in Greensprings School, Lekki Campus is being managed by Kid’s Golf International (KGI). The KGI programme includes:

  1. Ensuring that students are physically fit with warm up exercises, taking safety and the sport etiquette into consideration.
  2. Instructing the students on the short, medium and long range game of golf.
  3. Taking the students through the following training depending on the proficiency level of each student.
  4. a) An overall understanding of the principles, etiquette and safety while playing golf
  5. b) Warm up exercise
  6. c) Posture exercise
  7. d) Swinging exercise
  8. e) Impact and follow through
  9. f) Using the driver
  10. g) Long play routines
  11. h) Mid play routines
  12. i) Shoot game routines
  13. j) Bunker play routines
  14. k) Putting routines

Elective: Basketball Coordinator: Mr. Hameed

 

Basketball Elective stands as an opportunity for students to learn the skills of the game such as dribbling, lay ups, full court passing, shuttle runs, and so on.

By the same token, the elective is a good avenue for physical health improvement as the above-named skills require muscular exercises. Social skills such as team-work, friendship, tolerance, patience, endurance are developed along with the sporting skills.

Elective: Soccer Coordinators: Mr. Seje & Mr. Ogunkeye

This is a very popular choice among the students. Basic soccer techniques and skills like the following are explored:

  1. Passing and ball control
  2. Dribbling and feint
  3. Throw-in techniques
  4. Goal keeping
  5. Shooting
  6. Heading
  7. Lofted kick and volley techniques
  8. Tactical games ranging from 1v1 to 7v7
  9. Attacking and defending

These skills have helped the students improve in their game and this has resulted in the school achieving great results in national and international competitions including AISEN Competitions at all grade levels and the annual Keele Tournament in the UK.

Elective: Crocheting Coordinator: Mr. Koufama

In this creative elective, the students learn to crochet earrings, hair band, hand bands, binnie and bags. They also learn to make beaded earrings and bracelets. Beginners usually work their way up from making chains to making new patterns. They can differentiate double and single stitches.

Elective: Young Engineers and Scientists (YES) Coordinator: Mr. Amusan

YES Elective exposes students to practical and creative aspects of science. Students learn how to design and make the following items among other.

  1. A hydraulic arm
  2. Horse craft
  3. Remote sensor cars
  4. Making a rocket and launching it
  5. Lift

Students in this elective have fun applying the theories of science in practical and creative ways.

Elective: Craft and Decoration Coordinator: Adesola Agboola

In this elective, students learn to keep their hands busy making beautiful items such as cards, photo frames, key rings, bead pictures and other delightful things. This co-curricular activity brings out the innate creative abilities of students as some of them go the extra mile to make their pieces more beautiful than the given prototype.

Elective: Rubik Cube Coordinator: Mr. Obashe

 

Rubik Cube in Greensprings School, Lekki Campus is a weekly activity which holds every Monday (Yrs 7 – 9) and Thursday (Yrs 10 and 11). It gives the students the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills and help to write a possible algorithm for the best possible solution to a problem.

The above objective is achieved by solving a 3 by 3 cube that has been scrambled. Students develop their own algorithm as to finding the best possible and fastest way of solving all of the three layers of the 3 by 3 cube.

Elective: Instrumentation Coordinator: Dr. Abioye

 

Instrumentation provides an opportunity for students to learn different musical instruments such as band instruments, orchestra instruments and ethnic instruments. For this to be achieved, students are first exposed to the principles of music literacy and appreciation. To be eligible for registration students must own their instruments .The expectation for students in this elective is that they join the school band to gain more experience.

Elective: Fabric and Design Coordinator: Mr. Vincent

Fabric and Design is a creative field that links fashion designing (textile), carpet manufacturing and any other cloth- related field. Students learn the art of making tie-and dye, batik, upholstery among other things.

Dance Elective Ms Salami

Belonging to the dance elective helps students to be physically and mentally fit as it increases the amount of daily exercise which keep both body and brain active. It makes the body flexible, reduces stress levels as well as help one to make new friends who share similar interests. Participating in the elective also help students to become aware of the cultures of their peers through interaction and increase their self-esteem and confidence.

In addition, Dance opens new opportunities in terms of career choice such as being a dance instructor, a performer, a promoter, a producer, a designer, a choreographer, etc.

Students attend this elective in their sportswear to make dancing moves easy. They learn several dance steps from traditional to modern dance. It is indeed a fun way to keep healthy and to be opened to new opportunities.

Green Rangers Elective – Mr Odukoya, A.R. and Miss Olasoji

Green Rangers elective is an elective that is aimed at exposing young students to nature and how they can protect nature.

The elective is run in conjunction with LUFASI Nature Park a private initiative with the Lagos State conservation authority. It offers students the opportunity to visit the park every fortnight to have a good view and hands on experience of caring for animals like monkeys, tortoise, horses, donkeys, dogs etc.

Also, students have the opportunity to take part in international conversation competitions like the World Habitat day as well as other United Nations events related with the environment. It is an elective rich in excursions.

Volleyball Elective – Mr Christian Ohireme

Volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of six players on a court divided by a net with each team aiming to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules..

The object of the game is to send the ball over the net so that the opposing team cannot return the ball or prevent it from hitting the ground in their court. Each team has three hits to attempt to return the ball.

Volleyball is a great sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. It can be played year round as it can be played both indoors and outdoors.

Aside from the pure enjoyment of the game, volleyball is a fun way to burn calories. Playing 45 minutes of volleyball can burn up to 585 calories. Volleyball also improves muscle strength and tone.

 

In Greensprings school, we see the number of students enrolled in this sport continue to increase. At this point, the volleyball group consists of about fifty students, spread over three levels (Elementary, Secondary and IB)

 

We are also proud of our teams’ performance in the Association of International Schools Educators in Nigeria (AISEN) Tournaments. Tournaments like this are an excellent opportunity for the teams to prepare and further develop their training.

Chess Elective Mr Biodun-Ogundipe

Chess is played by millions of people worldwide in homes, urban parks, clubs, online, correspondence, and in tournaments. Chess significantly increases students’ logical and mathematical skills. In fact, because of the effect of chess, many students major in mathematical oriented courses and computer science in colleges, both of which utilize the skills in Chess. The skills Chess offers to those who play it are gold mines. It teaches the faithful players how to approach life. It teaches people that are having dilemmas that, here is more than one answer to a problem.

While your adversary is looking at the issue through a single point, you as the great chess player can take a step back and look at the picture through many points. Because of chess, lives of many have become enriched both mentally and socially. It also improves the critical thinking skills needed in everyday life.
