Art and Design Art and design is compulsory from Pre-school to Year Nine. It is an IGCSE subject. Our Art has been developed and structured in the areas of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture (Fine Arts) and Textile, Ceramics and Graphics (Applied Arts). Art plays a vital role in the development of a child. Art is the smile of the soul. It has a purpose, it is more than aesthetic pleasure – a work of art has a message. It represents the mind of the person that produced it. When you look at a work of art you may quickly decide whether you like it or not. But have you wondered why some pictures or artworks appeal to you more than others? There is no definitive answer to this question, but if you can start to understand how and why the artist created the piece, you will appreciate and enjoy it more. As you begin to develop an informed sense of why you like some works of art more than others, the experience of looking at our art will become more meaningful and enjoyable. We have two standard and highly equipped studio to accommodate various classes of painting and drawing at a time; one art gallery for archives and display; one textile studio for weaving, dyeing, knitting, sewing, macraine, crocheting and finger knitting, a ceramic studio for pottery with our state-of-the-art potters throwing wheels, we also have a a darkroom for photography, and donkeys and easels for outdoor drawing and painting. Art in Greensprings goes beyond drawing and painting. It is a vocational subject, inculcating skills and values. Products from textiles and other areas are proudly fashioned out by our students and worn by our students during our annual fashion show. Other works done by our students are always on display around the school and exhibited during student’s exhibition. Art And Design in Greensprings is a way of life, as we generally agree that “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso.
