Our Curriculum
Our Elementary school runs the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which is based on the English National Curriculum. The IPC is an internationally-minded, thematic, cross-curricular curriculum with a rigorous teaching structure. It addresses the development of knowledge, skills and understanding in three key areas- subjects, personal development and international understanding. The IPC is based on recent research on the brain and the impact it has on classroom learning. As a result, the thematic units of learning in the IPC are designed with the concepts of multiple intelligences, brain research, emotions in learning memory and learning styles fully embedded and reflected in the methodology and structure of the units.
There are clearly set out learning goals for:
Milepost 1 - 5 to 7 years (Grades 1-2)
Milepost 2 – 8 to 9 years (Grades 3-4)
Milepost 3 _ 10 to 12 years (Grades 5-6)
The goals state clearly what children need to know (knowledge), what they will be able to do (skills) and what they will need to understand (understanding) in the following subjects; Art, Geography, History, ICT, Language Arts, mathematics, Music, P.E, Science, Society, Technology and Additional Language. We take French and Yoruba as additional languages at Greensprings.
We focus on the Personal Goals of Enquiry, Adaptability, Resilience, Morality, Communication, Thoughtfulness, Cooperation, Respect and they are embedded in our daily activities in the classroom, assemblies, Pastoral lessons etc.
The International goals focus on knowledge and understanding beyond own nationality. They emphasize independence and interdependence of people cultures and countries, host country and home country.
Children are involved in a lot of research and recording activities which makes learning at the Elementary School ‘Great Learning, Great Fun!’
